washington dc photographer get together

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

Saturday I went down to Washington DC or more specifically the Georgetown area for a photographers together (thanks Michele for driving us!).
Rebecca and her dad drove cross country from Seattle, Washington so he could attend the Glenn Beck rally. While her dad and brother attended the rally, we had lunch, chatted, walked down to the river to get some photos, swapped lenses, chatted, took some headshot photos, chatted, walked back up to M street, chatted, used the restroom, stopped in to Anthropologie, chatted, grabbed something to drink, chatted, restroom break, chatted, group photo, chatted, Kelly left, chatted, walked around, stopped to chat on someone’s stoop, walked back to the parking garage, chatted and then dropped Amy and Rebecca off at the metro. All in all not a whole lot of shooting went on but a whole lot of talking did!

Hello my beauties!!!

Does Kelly not have the most incredible blue eyes? I think she does!

Can’t forget about the hilarious, liberal one who was stuck on a crowded metro with Tea Party-ers!

The paparazzi were in town – must have been someone famous around!

We stopped a gentleman to take our photo so yay for successful group photos!

Coming up later – a blog post from a fabulous maternity session held at Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton!

adventures in canning

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Anthony and I are trying our hand at canning. A few weeks ago we got a bunch of tomatoes, peppers (okay we’ve been getting a variety of peppers for 5 or so weeks!), and the like from our farm share at Griggstown Quail Farm. I figured let’s put these fresh ingredients to good use by canning! After our second time at it, it’s kinda fun being in the kitchen with my husband. He blanches, peels, and chops the tomatoes while I do the other prep work (i.e. sterilizing jars, boiling water, etc.). I think I’m going to pickle some of the peppers (we have a two gallon size bags full of peppers in the freezer!) and try my hand at pickled jalapenos (they are Anthony’s favorites!)

This was our kitchen after the first time we canned. It sure is messy!

Second time around, I got the special utensils and all!

The spaghetti sauce I used was a version of this one. From trial and error, we discovered we don’t like celery or bell peppers or as much sugar and salt. Also, I used an immersion blender on the second batch so that it wasn’t chunky. Tastes delicious!

This salsa recipe came from Tasty Kitchen as well. It can be found here. We did more modifying of this recipe, removing the pickling spice (okay we actually put this in this batch and it made it too sweet – almost like cider! so the next time we won’t be adding it), removing the brown sugar and not adding as much regular sugar. We ended up using one of the jars for dinner, hence why it isn’t full!

slideshow of oklahoma

A slideshow of some of the photos from my trip back to Oklahoma. I have another post coming of a mini session I had with the boys!

Take notice of Conner the dog when out at the pool. He goes crazy when we are in the water! The boys are little fishes in the pool (and tan as can be!)
Randon fell in love with the iPad. He’s obsessed with Toy Story anything and I downloaded an app just for him. He thought it was the coolest thing ever. And boy kids are smart these days. He knew exactly how to get out of it and get back.
And there is proof I was around too!

anthony’s birthday | new york city adventures

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Anthony and I went in to NYC once again on Wednesday to do some birthday celebrating. We went practically as far as you can go on Manhattan to The Cloisters which is a magnificent place to visit. Anthony is currently in study mode while preparing for 3 comprehensive exams in September – he’s been reading about the medieval period and religion. We saw many pieces of art that directly relate to what he is reading. He even got his iphone out many times to grab photos throughout the day which is not like him at all! He leaves all the photo taking to me.

For all the photogs out there, why yes that is Anthony sporting the shootsac for me! Looks great on him if I do say so myself!

We went to Morningside Heights to walk around Columbia University, Union Theological Seminary, and Riverside Church. These were places that we would probably not take out-of-towners, but places Anthony definitely wanted to see. It was his day so we did!

After visiting Morningside Heights, we stopped for dinner at a mexican place near Central Park. We then made our way through Central Park to get in line to see Comedy Central Park put on by the NYC Parks department and SummerStage. As we were walking, we saw a group of people, bright lights, etc. Not paying attention (my camera was in my hands) a man told me to not use my flash – okay! We discovered that they were filming Friends with Benefits with Justin Timberlake. That’s them filming and JT in the white shirt (on the right). I was amazed by the paparazzi that were out there with their massive gear. Must say that was my first experience with the paps!

And lastly the reason we went into NYC! Some “illegal” photos of John Oliver and Lewis Black from the Daily Show with Jon Stewart performing at Comedy Central Park. We weren’t suppose to take any photos during the performance but I snapped these quickly!

4th of July in Naples, Florida

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Our last full day in Florida was the 4th of July. Again the weather was rainy and stormy and I was for sure the fireworks were going to be canceled. The sun did make an appearance right before sunset. Luckily I ventured to the beach before the sun went down beyond Naples Pier. HELLO gorgeous light!!! I seriously love this first shot. This is almost a SOOC shot (meaning I did very little to it in Lightroom/Photoshop).

I know this is a tad dark of Anthony and I – that’s what happens when you put your camera on auto and pray it turns out. I like the photo anyways!

Some of the cousins + my father!

That’s a LOT of people waiting to watch fireworks!!! (and for the record I don’t know any of these people – guess I should have gotten a photo of the families together)

florida wedding festivities

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

I didn’t take any photos at the ceremony or reception. I wanted to have a good time and allow the professionals they hired get the photos. So there are lots of family photos during the cocktail hour. The weather pretty much the entire week was gloomy, lots of overcast-ness and rainy more than the normal afternoon showers. Thankfully the rain held off for the outdoor cocktail hour which allowed us to get some nice photos of the extended family.

The nightly photo! Earlier that morning we hit an outlet mall and found this dress for $40. Felt it was perfect compliment to Anthony’s attire. And finally got a photo of the girls!

SISTERS!

That look on Josh’s face melts my heart!

Family photo!

The Sallee Family (we are missing a few, but that’s alright!)

Aunt Patty & Uncle Bill

My parents

Some of the men folk!

Lastly where the cocktail hour was – poolside!

Come back tomorrow for the last post including photos of the house we stayed in. It was heavenly!!!
