Friday evening was perfect for a maternity session at Rat’s Restaurant on the grounds at Grounds For Sculpture with two beautiful and hilarious people. The temps were in the high 70′s very low 80′s all day with the sun still giving off the summer glow. Wouldn’t have ever thought it was still August in New Jersey!

This huge rat is scary and out of place!! It is pointing to where you should enter to park for the restaurant but still really strange!

Can we talk about pregnancy glow? Jess would probably credit the sun but she looks fab!

Thanks for the laughs on a beautiful evening! I’m beyond excited to meet your little one in a few short weeks Jess + Vinnie!

adventures in canning

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Anthony and I are trying our hand at canning. A few weeks ago we got a bunch of tomatoes, peppers (okay we’ve been getting a variety of peppers for 5 or so weeks!), and the like from our farm share at Griggstown Quail Farm. I figured let’s put these fresh ingredients to good use by canning! After our second time at it, it’s kinda fun being in the kitchen with my husband. He blanches, peels, and chops the tomatoes while I do the other prep work (i.e. sterilizing jars, boiling water, etc.). I think I’m going to pickle some of the peppers (we have a two gallon size bags full of peppers in the freezer!) and try my hand at pickled jalapenos (they are Anthony’s favorites!)

This was our kitchen after the first time we canned. It sure is messy!

Second time around, I got the special utensils and all!

The spaghetti sauce I used was a version of this one. From trial and error, we discovered we don’t like celery or bell peppers or as much sugar and salt. Also, I used an immersion blender on the second batch so that it wasn’t chunky. Tastes delicious!

This salsa recipe came from Tasty Kitchen as well. It can be found here. We did more modifying of this recipe, removing the pickling spice (okay we actually put this in this batch and it made it too sweet – almost like cider! so the next time we won’t be adding it), removing the brown sugar and not adding as much regular sugar. We ended up using one of the jars for dinner, hence why it isn’t full!

She is an aspiring actress. A beautiful aspiring actress who spent 2.5 years in the military. She smiles with her eyes and is a natural in front of the camera. Headshots can be awkward but Courtney rocked this session. Best of luck to you on school and auditions! I’m routin’ for ya!

Can I say how much I’m in love with my macro lens? It helps that we get to pick fresh flowers weekly at our CSA farm share. These first two are from the farm.

These next three are from an evening walking along the D&R Canal in Griggstown. I met up with fellow photographer Holly to think outside the box and shoot something different than we both normally do. It was just what I needed it!

Last night I spent part of my evening with fellow photographers from all over the country, but mainly from NJ/NY area. It was a nice meet + greet held in Cranbury by Heather, our facilitator. We will be gathering the first Tuesday of the month from here on out. If you want to get on the list, email me and I’ll pass along your info to Heather.

Lots of laughter throughout the evening!

Our hostess and her lovely husband Jamie.

I will be photographing Rachel’s Bat Mitzvah in Hunter, New York over Labor Day weekend. We met up yesterday evening to get some photos of just her. She is a beautiful young lady and I’m so glad that I will be apart of her celebration.

Boy can she work the camera!

Seriously loved the evening sun.

I got some laughs out of her when I asked her to be serious and after I told her she looked beautiful.

You’ve got to be kidding me on this one! Hello gorgeous!!

Thanks again Rachel and Laurel for this fun photo shoot!
