1. It’s February – eek!!! Supposedly this is the month we are to move from our late 1950s garden-style (needed to be condemned 10 years ago) apartment to a brand new one! This one has a huge kitchen and top-of-the-line stacking front loader washer/dryers. I’ve been fortunate to go through the space from the moment they broke ground in 2009 to take photos for the seminary. The anticipation that we all have felt has been mounting and now that half the community has moved into the first building, the rest of us are even more anxious to get over!!

2. Do you take tons of photos with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod and never know what to do with them? Simply Postcards is filling that gap! The app has been on my phone for ages and I finally printed my first postcard from a photo from New Orleans. It arrived and I LOVE it. It’s a full 5×7 print – you write a message for the back, and they mail it for you!

3. I cannot wait to share the photo wall from our session with Bernadette when we move into the new place. Currently they are spread throughout, because I didn’t really want to rearrange too many things on the wall. For now it’s a combination of canvases, art mounts, and prints but I’m sure I’ll continue to add with other items too.

4. I have put out a challenge on goodreads that I will read 75 books in 2012. I’m not sure I’ll reach it, considering the pace I’ve been going as of late! I was between books (just finished reading 1Q84 which is over 900 pages and wasn’t sure what to read next), so I got out my HUGE stack of magazines to finish them. I had a few from 2010 in there -oops! I read them all and they are now safely in the recycling bin! I’m not sure why I don’t just read them when they arrive but I’m caught up for a short amount of time!

5. This past week, I’ve been working on getting passport information gathered, photos taken, copies of marriage certificate, etc. to send our stuff in. I have a passport, it expires next year + it still has my maiden name. I thought I’d get a little break, but truthfully I am saving myself $20ish verse getting a brand new one for Anthony. This summer we will be heading up to Niagara on the Lake, since Anthony’s dissertation topic centered around that little town in the late 1800s. And maybe one day we will be able to add all sorts of countries to our passports!

Have a wonderful weekend!

1. I haven’t done an update on our garden in awhile. It is looking really pitiful right now, in that our tomato plants look awful and nothing is growing except rosemary and lavender! It’s a far cry from what it looked like in it’s prime in July! I’m going to finish pulling up the rest of the stuff this week, and begin planting fall crops. The good thing is we still have our CSA farm share and have no shortage of amazing local veggies (and we actually got a “baby” watermelon last week!).

2. On a whim, I purchased the Canon 50L lens to add to my ever-growing collection of L glass lenses. Woohoo!!

3. This coming weekend I’m heading down to the Outer Banks for a girls weekend (you may remember two years ago we did the same thing!). Luckily the house is on the ocean side of Duck verse the sound part and no damage was done by Hurricane Irene. Bring on the good times!

4. Is anyone else patiently waiting for Apple to announce the iPhone 5?? The rumors are stating that pre-orders will be at the end of September with a launch date of October 7th. I desperately need a new phone, so much so that I can’t write texts or emails on my phone without going crazy turning my phone one way or the other to get the letter I need typed.

5. I’ve mentioned a time or two about how I also teach Zumba in the area. Since the spring I’ve been teaching ZumbAtomic to kids at the Hamilton YMCA. I was lucky enough to have some really sweet girls this summer. On the last day of class we put on a show for the parents and luckily one mom agreed to take a group photo with my camera. She was a bit intimidated by the size but rocked it out! FYI: there are two ZumbAtomic classes starting on Thursday September 15th, one for 4-7 year olds at 4:00 and 8-12 year olds at 5:00. The classes typically run for 8 weeks. You can register online.

1. It’s June and I’m just not ready for that at all. It means that summer is here, it means that the year is almost half way through, it means fresh local veggies all the time, it means HOT HOT HOT, it means vacations and family get togethers. This year is going to be a challenge on the last one because Anthony + I are not going to be in Oklahoma at the same time. Some work has come up that has me missing Anthony’s 10 year class reunion. Since he was class president we figured he should go without me this time around. I’m very sadden by this but there just was no way around it!

2. For the first time two weeks ago, Anthony + I shot our first event together at Princeton University’s chapel for the seminary’s commencement exercises. It was fun to have him there by my side, although I think he’d tell you differently. For a man who hasn’t really taken many photos with one of my cameras, he rocked it on semi-auto (aperture-priority mode that is)! You can view the majority of the photos here.

3. Last year some time my awesome mother-in-law Vicki learned to needlepoint. She has made pillows, foot stools, and I’m not even sure what else. Her Christmas present to us was going to be a pillow. She completed her part, dropped it off at the store to be mailed to the pillow-maker (you see where this is going???), and it turned up missing. The store owner couldn’t find it, the pillow-maker couldn’t find it. It was g.o.n.e., gone! The hours, the hard work, the thread, everything. Vicki, as sweet and kind as she is, forgave them all and began working diligently on another design for me. My birthday present – it’s absolutely beautiful!! When I get my own craft/office space, this pillow will proudly be displayed in there.

4. After watching Maria Menounos on The Nate Show a few weeks ago promoting her new book The Everygirl’s Guide to Life, I knew I wanted to glance at it (thank you public libraries for being AWESOME and having it!!). The first chapter is about organizing which I love to do myself! It then got me on this kick about purging stuff that I truly don’t need (which is pretty much 90% of our home…). This will be a work in progress, I’m giving myself until January which is most likely when we’ll be moving into the new seminary apartments, but getting rid of 3 huge bags of crap from our bedroom is totally freeing. And to give myself credit, I’ve been slowing giving away our stuff over the years to the Vietnam Vets (they come to your house and PICK it up for you!!!!!), but reading that book gave me that final kick. No more moving crap from place to place that I’ll never use/wear/etc. Spring cleaning at it’s finest!

5. While purging, I came across a handful of my CD collection. This lead me to copy them into my iTunes and now I’ve gotta figure out what to do with the actual CDs. I don’t want them anymore and I’m not even sure they are worth anything. Anthony thinks I’m crazy to want to get rid of them, which lead us to a conversation about backing up our online music collection and other documents/files/etc. on our computers. I realized that I do a lot of backing up of my stuff (hello client photos!!!!) but Anthony doesn’t really have a system. Time to get an external hard drive for him!!!

Leaving you all on a flower! Have a wonderful weekend!

1. I can’t believe it’s the first of May already! Growing up (and even until three years ago when we moved up here), the first of May always meant warmer weather and the end of the school year! SUMMER!!!! Most people have a good grip on when they are going on vacation but Anthony and I are still scrambling to figure that out. As a type-A, OCD planner, it gives me anxiety to not already know any of this. It always works out but man it’s stressful. Are you doing anything fun for the summer?

2. This week I finally got around to planting more seeds in our garden: okra, squash, and onions. I will get some bush beans out there very soon. I also have some seedlings I need to transplant. To find the time…

3. Have you guys missed seeing my sewing projects? I’ve been on a hiatus from sewing, not for a specific reason other than I’ve been busy. I have been itching to get back in, I’m hoping the summer doesn’t go by before I get back to it. I have all these thoughts in my head about making skirts and simple, summer dresses…one day!!

4. My love of reading is still going strong. Some favorites I’ve read recently (you can find all the books I read here: Room, Breaking Night (which I spoke a little about here) and The Art of Racing in the Rain. I’m not a big animal person, The Art of Racing in the Rain is told from the perspective of a dog, and man it got me! Do you have a book you’ve read recently that I should check out? I have The Tiger’s Wife from the library but I believe I have to return it very soon or else I’d start on it right away.

5. Spring is here!! Yes, I know there are many who aren’t fans of spring because of all the pollen and allergies but I love it! Everything is finally back in bloom and there is LIFE! You see people coming out of hibernation, going on walks and runs, barbequing, and the like.

To finish the post off with a photo of a beautiful dogwood tree from the seminary’s campus.

It’s been a little quiet around the blog but life has been CRAZY!!!

1. I got my wisdom teeth out two weeks ago yesterday and I’ve had some insane pain starting last Thursday. Come to find out I have a dry socket! So strange that it happened 7 days later but I believe we’ve gotten the pain under control with packing (I believe that’s what it’s called – I just hope it doesn’t come out again as I’ve been to the oral surgeon twice this week!!). Here’s to hoping I don’t have to visit Dr. Levine anytime soon!

2. We have started on our community garden. It will be the first year we’ve attempted to garden and I’ve been reading up a storm about the best ways to start seeds indoors to compost (luckily the community started the pile last year, but it’s nice to know when to actually use compost!) to what will grow best. We are going to do square foot gardening which essentially you block off square feet and this allows a more effective planting pattern if you are limited on space. We are actually splitting the plot with our neighbors which meant that space is definitely an issue.

3. Anthony has been on my tail about watching Dexter since Christmas and I finally caved in! We just finished season 1 last night and oh my goodness! I totally get the hype now. Although it’s not a scary show, I always think something awful is about to happen at every turn. Dexter is one messed up individual (or shall we say the writers are!). Moving on to season 2 very soon.

4. My mom is coming to visit for the annual birthday celebration on Wednesday! Last year it didn’t happen since my parents had gotten custody of my nephews only a few short weeks beforehand, so it’s a real treat that she has great support and help to come hang out with Anthony and I (and do some birthday shopping – looks like I’ll be getting several pieces of All-Clad cookware which I’ve been dreaming about for forever!)

5. The 2011 Spring Happenings Newsletter went out last week. If you want to be the first to know about specials and events, email me! Over the coming days, I will be posting photos of some incredible products including a large canvas a client ordered along with a beautiful album! Come back soon!!!

6. (extra!!!) Last week I went into NYC for a Zumba event and got to hang out with my friend Becky and her girls. They have a great apartment on the Upper East Side and before I left for the train, the girls were doing an “I Spy” book while I was finishing breakfast and Becky was showering. It was the sweetest moment that I just had to snap a few!!

1. Yesterday I went in for a consultation about getting my two wisdom teeth out – I’ve seriously been putting this off for far too long. And what was I thinking waiting until I got to New Jersey to do it. I waited for 40 minutes before I even saw the surgeon just for a 15 minute consultation to have me sign a paper and come up with a plan. Stupid stupid stupid. And now I’m anxious and worried! Quick poll – if you’ve had your wisdom teeth out did you do general anesthesia (IV – knocked you out completely) or laughing gas?

2. I love being able to teach Zumba Gold at the seminary’s gym but I’m itching to teach at another place as well. If you know of a location that is looking to hire, please let me know! I’ve contacted several with no response – I know there is a need for Zumba Gold in this area!!!!

3. Peter Conrey, a wedding and portrait photographer in the Memphis area posted this brilliant blog post about The Creative I’s on lbobi.com. If you are creative at all (you do not need to be a business owner or a photographer to read it), this is a fabulous read on the different stages of creativity.

4. The Hunger Games – if you haven’t read this series you need to! It’s beyond addicting and literally the world stopped turning until I was finished with them!

5. Last Saturday I did a brief intro course to the Oh Snap! workshops at Princeton Library – turn out was great especially with the rainy, cold weather that we had. Here are a few snaps! (There is still space for two more people for the February Oh Snap!

1. Imaging USA was a blast! I adore my roomies and all the other photographers I was able to meet. Hopefully I’ll get a review up once I process ALL the incredible information!

2. I am very over snow and the cold! Last winter was brutal enough when we got dumped upon three times in as many weeks in February and the trend has started earlier this year! I wish that when the cold comes that people wouldn’t hibernate! I miss seeing people out walking, playing with their kids, etc. Obviously I know why but I hate that we all stay inside so much (I’m totally guilty of this – I get out to teach Zumba Gold and that’s about it!)

3. I know I always mention my dirty-little-pleasures in regards to music in these five on fridays and this week is no different! While in Oklahoma, we heard a lot of Thinking ’bout Something by none other than Hanson – the same ones who sang MMMMBOOP. The new album has a very fun, upbeat, funky vibe to it. When we came back to NJ, I ended up purchasing their entire album and I really love it!

4. I have written many goals (personal and business) out in a little journal and one is that I really want to read at least 50 books in 2011! I read 44 in 2010 (I know this because I have Goodreads to keep track for me!) so I’m really going to push myself. I also will finish my home ec assignments!!

5. Another reason (that I didn’t mention in my away post) why I wanted to get photos of Anthony and his brothers is because I create a calendar every year for my mom and my mother-in-law. I didn’t have an issue with photos for my mom’s calendar because I went back to Oklahoma several times and we went to Florida together. For my mother-in-law, I had lots of photos of Anthony + I and none of the other boys. I was able to get some of their new puppy Bella and their other dog Jake and then a variety of the boys together and then individual. My mom’s is printed on 5×5 photo paper with a linen texture (she keeps it at her work desk under some glass) and my mother-in-laws is 8×8. She has it hanging up in her classroom at school. Now that they have both received their respective calendars, here are a few photos. If you are interested in seeing all the months, I’ll probably upload them to my fickr page in the next week or so.

There was a little break there of the five on fridays due to the craziness that is holiday season and will may just be my last one of the 2010 year (how on earth is 2010 practically over!?!?!?!)

1. The crazy holiday photo season is slowly coming to a close. Only a few last odd and end items are left before the holiday deadline of November 30th. I’ve loved every minute of this fall/holiday rush but definitely ready to enjoy the holidays with my honey!

2. Last Friday Anthony and I experienced Stromboli and beer at Stuff Yer Face in New Brunswick with our wonderful neighbors Jen and Phil. It was yummy – fattening, but so so delicious!

3. I just cashed in a helluva lot of rewards points for this beauty in Empire Red. I’ve been dying to have a 12 cup food processor for.ever. And I got it for “free”.

4. My mom is here visiting all the way from Oklahoma. Taking a break from my nephews and all things testosterone! GIRL TIME! We’ve been chattin’ it up, sewing, chatting, shopping, chatting, all the things that don’t happen enough throughout the year!

5. Next week is THANKSGIVING! Holy crap. Anthony and I are hosting our very first one this year with a big turkey! We are getting the turkey from Griggstown Quail Farm or as many around us know it as our farm share farm. They are free range (I’ve seen them running around so I know it’s legit!), hormone and antibiotic free precious turkeys! We are having people over and everything. Please pray that the turkey isn’t over or under cooked!

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a five on friday! Bringing it back ole school style!

1. Um, it’s the middle of September! How did that happen? I’m not sure where the summer went. The hustle and bustle of school time is upon us and you know what that means??? Fall sessions!! I have two more dates available for sessions before the holidays. Don’t wait until the last minute to get your fall/Christmas photos taken. Contact me ASAP to get those last two dates.

2. Anthony has started the second round of his comprehensive exams. If you can remember, he can use some good thoughts on Thursdays from here until the second week of October. Save us all from the insanity! We are both ready for it to be over (as all the other 3rd year PhD students and spouses are too!).

3. Our adventures in canning seems to be going well. I’m not sure how much more we’ll have to can before our farm share is up, but we have a nice stockpile of diced tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, salsa, salsa verde (green salsa) and jalapenos. Makes me excited for fall and winter – now that I know we’ll have fresh ingredients then.

4. Have I mentioned on here that I am now licensed to teach ZUMBA Gold and ZumbAtomic??? I know what you are thinking – how on earth does that woman manage everything?!?!? (you were thinking that, right???) Well I haven’t been managing very well, BUT I will now have more time to devote to it. I will soon be offering ZumbAtomic (which is for kiddos aged 4-12). Just give me a few weeks and I’ll let you know where I’ll be teaching it. Very excited about this opportunity!

5. The demolition of our apartment complex has begun – it’s finally happening! It’s bittersweet to see these things being torn down but no one should seriously have to live in the conditions we do! I have an all-access pass (with a hard hat and boots) to the site since we have to document the process for the seminary. Here are a few photos of the process (it’s taking some time because they are recycling what they can along the way.) As of today, out of the 7 buildings that are being torn down, 5 are down. It’s such a different landscape to look out and see trees and machinery verse buildings. More updates on this as the new buildings are erected!

1. How on earth is it June already? Seriously this year is flying by!

2. I thought I was going to get a reprieve to catch up on shows from this past spring but summer tv has already come upon us. Anthony and I have are slowly making our way from the beginning on Mad Men and The Wire (which is no longer on, but we still like it!). I’m hoping that by July when the latest Mad Men starts that we’ll be all caught! We’re excited about Last Comic Standing and Royal Pains! What are some of your favorite shows?

3. Anthony and I joined a CSA (Griggstown Quail Farm) and our first pick up was this week. We got some yummy greens including bok choy, turnip greens, and lots of different lettuces. We’re gonna do a real Southern dinner of fried chicken, creamed greens and more this weekend. (side note: I have to thank Holly for pointing us in the direction of Griggstown. We wanted to join a CSA but missed out on many of the places because we got in late. Thankfully they still had a spot and we are excited to support local agriculture!)

4. BOOKING UPDATE: I have two sessions open in June and a few in July. Book your family session today as these dates will fill up fast.

5. Next week Anthony and I are celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary. I’ve been doing some reminiscing on the photos and man do they have me all emotional. Check back next Friday for a post all about our wedding!

A photo of one of my plants with the macro lens.

1. Have you entered the nursery contest yet? The deadline is Sunday at midnight. Get to submitting those photos! Voting opens very soon!!

2. It’s been snowing again here in Jersey, like the rest of the country. The other night I hit the biggest pot hole of my life, ended up bending the rim of my tire. That cost me a pretty penny to fix. I think I’m ready for spring now. This past week it got warm and melted most of the snow from two weeks ago and I was enjoying that. Back to snow boots and snow gear for the time being.

3. Have you been watching the Olympics? We’ve had it on nightly, I’m obsessed! I will be sad when its finally over. I know a lot of people don’t dig their shows not being on, but it’s fun to see incredible athletes compete. I mean, aerial jumping? That is some intense stuff!

4. A fellow photographer Amy posted this great article on choosing your photographer. It points out the difference between a decent photo and a great photo plus the errors. It’s definitely worth venturing over to read.

5. To end it off is one more photo of baby elena!

I’m back this week to finish off what I made note of last week in #5.

1. I spilled some guilty musical pleasures last week, but I still have more to share! It’s been years now since I last watched American Idol (I think Carrie Underwood was the last season we watched). I had a roommate in college who was obsessed and she got us addicted to it. The top two this past year have really captured my heart from performing on Ellen. So my other two guilty pleasures include Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. Such catchy songs, even if the lyrics are awful!

2. Have you heard Ugly Betty has been canceled? It breaks my heart to see it go off the air. It’s one of only a handful of shows Anthony and I enjoy watching together because all the others have been canceled (Eli Stone and Pushing Daisies). Why does ABC do this to us?

3. I’m participating in a Biggest Loser challenge with 30+ photographers across the country and it really is pushing me. I’m participating because I need that push to get to the gym and it’s working. A link to this blog was posted and I have to say I love so many of these recipes. I think we’ve had at least one each night this week. So yummy and healthy (although I’m not sure how many weight watcher points are allowed each day).

4. I’m thinking of all my Oklahoma friends and family who are enduring a brutal ice storm right now that will potentially have snow coming today. Hoping everyone has electricity.

5. Here is a little teaser of one sample product that I think all my clients will love. I have another blog post coming of all the samples I’ve received over the past few weeks.

Five on Friday is BACK!

1. Did you check this post about helping Haiti rise? If not, please do and feel free to purchase a tshirt. 100% of the proceeds goes to the charity.

2. Wednesday night we happened to catch the Nightly News w/Brian Williams. The last story of the broadcast was about the hundreds of thousands of orphan children in Haiti. It pulled at my heart strings, more so than any other coverage I’ve seen. I’ve been thinking non-stop about the children down there. If we could feasible do it (aka not live in a 900 sq. ft. apartment while Anthony is finishing his PhD) then I’d do everything in my power to adopt one of those children. I know the process is lengthy and costly but man I can’t stop thinking about them.

3. I found this blog about a family who is in the process of adopting their 4th child from Haiti. Mom and baby daughter were there when the earthquake hit. Everyone is alright, but please go read her blog and offer support. Hopefully they will get their sweet son soon.

4. I’ve been ordering tons of samples to bring to my sessions. I’m excited to share them with all my clients soon. If you want to see photos, I’m more than happy to send them along in the meantime.

5. Have you heard of Matt Morris? If not, you really should hear his music. Its soft and powerful! Bloodline is one of a handful that really move me. I am also obsessed with Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johannson’s latest album “Break Up”. My latest guilty pleasure in music is Lady Gaga. That girl is brilliant and every time I hear an interview with her, it makes me respect her even more. The next installment of five on friday will include two other musically guilty pleasures (if you follow me on twitter you probably already know this tidbit about me).

A little something fun from our last night in Nashville. Around 9pm, Anthony & I walked over to Opry Mills to grab a drink & some nachos at Dave & Busters since I hadn’t had anything for dinner. On our way back, I saw this big Snoopy house from the ICE! presentation so we busted out the trusty iphone. Enjoy!

1. I rented two lenses for a wedding I’m shooting next Saturday and I’m in total LOVE with both of them! They are two lenses that I’m vacillating on purchasing which is going to make it that much harder to send back when I’m finished with them! I’m excited to have them in my arsenal for the wedding too!

2. I’m an avid book reader and am in need of some great book recommendations. If you have any, please let me know (you can check out what I’ve already read at goodreads).

3. Thanksgiving is this week – oh.my.goodness! I am totally in denial that winter is coming and Christmas is right around the corner. Where on earth did the time go? I think after we put up the tree I will get more into the spirit. Right?

4. Are you a fan of Kim Schmidt Photography on Facebook? If not, what are you waiting for? When I reach 400 fans I will be offering a FREE session to someone local* to be used by April 2010. Join now and get your friends to become fans as well! Only 68 more people. I will also be doing little contests throughout 2010 to all fans.
*Central New Jersey residents only

5. I have a special announcement coming Tuesday December 1. Please make sure to come back here to see the details. It will be a great holiday season for at least one special family!

I had every intent of posting this yesterday but time slipped away and I wasn’t able to finish it. A day late, but here we go!

1. I want to learn to knit & crochet. Anyone in the Mercer County area know how and want to teach me? We can trade services if interested. Email me please!

2. I received half the prints going up at Lawrence OB/GYN yesterday. It was like Christmas morning when I saw that package waiting for me (all 28 pounds!). I am very happy with the images I selected and once they go up, I will take photos, I promise!

3. The weather is telling me that winter is here and I do.not.like.it. Just last weekend I got out my winter clothes but I refuse to wear them. The winter coats are still in the closet. I’m in denial. I am not looking forward to the winter months. It means less time spent outside and interacting with people. Its gonna be a long few months!

4. There is a family here at CRW that has an infant in the hospital. They aren’t getting answers for what is the problem and I think if you could keep them in your thoughts and prayers I know they appreciate it. You can read about their journey at here.

5. Rob Thomas will be doing three shows in NYC this coming week and I’m bummed I didn’t get tickets to see any of them. I will be on the lookout all week to see if I can find any available. If you know of someone who has tickets and are willing to sell, please let me know!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Another round of Five on Friday.

1. This past week I’ve been ultra busy with PTS’ alumni/ae reunion week. I’ve been photographing most of the events which have been taking up most of my evenings. I am ready to reclaim them! I think tonight is going to be date night!

2. As you may have seen in this blog post, I am partnering up with Lawrence OB/GYN. Very soon you will be seeing, oh, between 25-30 of my images HUGE on their walls. We are talking 20×30 or larger. It will be very surreal to see my stuff that large. I will definitely be taking photos once we get them up.

3. If you haven’t noticed, I recently added a “Support Local Businesses” page under Information. If you know of a local company that I should include, please send me an email and I will add them.

4. Do you need organizational help? Are you constantly making lists and not sure where they are? There is this awesome program Evernote that will help you out. I’ve been using it for a month now and I can’t get over how awesome it is. There are many different forms, online, applications for the desktop, iphone, etc. I use all three and it rocks my socks off. I have different “notebooks” (photography business, PTS photography, Anthony, personal, recipes, etc.) set up to keep myself just a little more organized. You can browse, search, link to URLs, etc. Here is a screen shot of the desktop application w/one of the many recipes I’ve added. This will help me when we travel or when I’m at the grocery store and I can’t recall every ingredient. Definitely check it out and let me know how you like it.

5. Last Sunday I photographed a fun family that won a session from the St. Paul Catholic School Shamrock Auction back in March. There are three beautiful young ladies and I am so excited to share their photos with you. Be on the lookout within the next day or so for their own blog post. I would have gotten it up sooner but being away all week has been a challenge!

1. It’s definitely fall in New Jersey. I was fighting it for a long time, but now I’ve come to embrace it. Even though its October, the ice cream truck drives by daily between 4-5pm – weird. The leaves are finally starting to change. Here are a few photos I took on PTS’s campus.

2. Trader Joe’s opened up on Route 1 in Princeton a few weeks ago. I didn’t understand the love people had for TJ’s until it opened up. I’ve been too many times (its bad that its in walking distance) but I discovered something amazing this week. TJ’s Cornbread. I have never had cornbread this amazing before in my life. I’ve been dreaming of it and thinking about when the next time I can make it will be.

3. After I got home from work Wednesday, I was sitting at our dining room table checking my email. I looked up to see a praying mantas on our screen door (at the time the back door was open and he was on the inside of the screen – aka could have come into our apartment). There was also a bee inside. I wasn’t sure how I was going to get the bee out (because I didn’t really want to kill it). I proceeded to close the door almost all the way, hoping the bee would try to get out. Not but a few minutes later did I look up to see the mantas CAUGHT the bee and was eating it. He finished it in less than 20 minutes. GROSS! I had to take some photos!

4. Next Friday Anthony and I are flying down to Dallas for the annual Red River Shootout between Oklahoma and Texas. We are meeting up with my parents and are going to have a blast. We met down there our sophomore year in college 7 years ago (it was actually this weekend, but we call OU/TX weekend our anniversary no matter when it is!)

5. Tonight we are hosting game night at our house! I am beyond excited to drink and play Guesstures with fellow “childless” seminarian couples.

Have a wonderful weekend!

1. This post comes in the midst of our packing and moving. We have lived in NJ for almost a year and its now time to switch things up a bit and move apartments! We are actually going into seminary housing closer to campus. I hate having to leave the place we have now because there is a nice workout facility and pool. Trading that for the community at CRW though.

2. There are tons of corn fields around us. The other night we were driving and saw the entire fields covered in lighting bugs/fireflies/whatever you call them. It was one of the neatest things either one of us had ever seen. I really want to get out there and take a picture. Sure enough the tripod is already packed.

3. I have a mild obsession with Rob Thomas. It started right after he released his first solo album, Something to Be in 2005. I just got his new album, Cradlesong, this week and I’m more in love! I recently started following him on twitter and he seems very down to earth.

4. I received several orders from my lab this week. I must say that I LOVE when a client orders an image large (we are talking 20×24!). There is nothing like seeing your work displayed in such a way. They have a gorgeous home and that image will fit right in with their decor. If you are wavering on what size to get, my philosophy is the bigger the better. You really won’t regret it!

5. Next week my in-law family is coming into town for 5 days. We have plans to visit NYC (seeing Lion King on Broadway), Philadelphia, the seminary campus, Princeton, and possibly the shore. We are both excited to share our new area with them.

And a fireworks picture from last Thursday. It was really cool that the fireworks were right were the moon was shining. Pretty cool.

1. Wednesday night Anthony and I hosted the church history PhD students and their spouses to dinner. Anthony has been in this program for a year, and I was finally meeting 2 of the couples. There were 9 of us all together; the most people we’ve ever entertained for. We had maple BBQ brisket, roasted veggies, corn on the cob, ceasar salad, rolls, homemade chocolate chip cookies. Man it was a feast!

2. I really don’t like the rain. Last Thursday it started raining here and just has not stopped; until today! The sun is out and I don’t think rain is even in the forecast.

3. Every month I get together with a group of seminary spouses for dinner and book club. It dawned on me just yesterday that I hadn’t started reading the book and we are getting together this Tuesday. I stopped reading It Sucked and Then I Cried by Heather Armstrong and got to reading The Princess Bride (as in the movie!) by William Goldman. I’m about halfway done and am enjoying it.

4. My confession is I’ve only see The Princess Bride the movie once and I don’t remember much about it. I know that its a favorite among many people. I really didn’t watch much TV or movies growing up (just something my family never did) so I guess I lead a sheltered pop culture life.

5. I am beyond excited for this announcement. June 13-19th Anthony and I will be in OKLAHOMA. I am booking sessions now! Please email me for details.

1. I got a sweet deal on airline tickets for Nashville. I’m coming back June 5-7, 2009. If you are needing a session, please contact me to reserve a time. If you are wanting to earn FREE stuff, get your friends to book sessions. You could get a complimentary session.

2. Anthony gave his first official lecture this past Wednesday to some of his classmates. One step closer to being that professor.

3. I got hired on to do photography at Princeton Theological Seminary. I have been working in the same office since September so it was only natural to make the switch. It will be exciting to see my photos in print/on their site. Be on the lookout.

4. Several weeks ago, I started to scrapbook again. I want to say it had been close to 3 years since I last did it. So needless to say I’m WAY behind. I have always done the scrapbooks by school year, which now that I’m out of school I don’t think its working out so well. I finished the 2004-2005 year (the year we graduated, got married and moved to Nashville) and the 2005-2006 year (first year in Nashville). I just sent another 100 photos to the lab for the 2006-2007 year. My goal is to be completely caught up by this summer. Think I can do it?

5. Growing up in Oklahoma and living in Tennessee the past three years, I know what heat is. I can handle it – when its in the summer. This past weekend it was HOT here in New Jersey. Who would have thought – mid 90′s in April in NJ! I am very glad we live where we do because we have AC. Seminary housing can’t turn the AC on until May 1st (state law) and lots of people were complaining. I can’t even imagine (and I can’t sleep with the windows open due to allergies). I just thought we got away from that unbearable heat but I thought wrong.

And what’s a photography blog without a photo. This is a beautiful tree outside the building I work at PTS.

There are photographers out there that do Five on Friday and I thought I’d give it a try this week.

1. I have the most amazing husband ever. He definitely listens! Sunday is my birthday. I had told him how much I wanted cupcakes for my birthday. Today, while my mother and I were out shopping, he went to the Bent Spoon in Palmer Square and got half a dozen cupcakes. I was totally surprised when I came home. He also got me Lightroom 2 – I’ve been dying to have this program for months now.

2. My mom flew in yesterday for my birthday. It has become an annual tradition for her to come visit during my birthday. The first year we got married, she and Anthony schemed and surprised me! I was completely shocked.

3. Spring is here in Princeton. I just hope it stays! The past few days have been closer to 60s or higher. Tomorrow is suppose to be gorgeous! Perfect weather for NYC!!!!

4. We’re going into NYC to sight-see (we’re going back down to the Brooklyn Bridge area to take a few pictures for a lecture Anthony is giving in less than 2 weeks), shop in SoHo and see Mary Poppins on Broadway.

5. Last week was spring break for the area schools. That meant I was going to be working overtime at one of my jobs. Watching the B girls is always fun but Ms. Isabelle was antsy on Thursday. We decided to make homemade cupcakes. It was fun being around an 8 year old and the thought process when it come to decorating. Can you tell which ones I decorated and which ones Belle did?

One last photo of their dog Oxford. He’s an Airedale Terrier and very expressive.
