mercer museum | doylestown, pa

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Memorial Day, Anthony and I decided to head to Doylestown, PA to visit the Mercer Museum. This was an item on our Schmidt’s Adventure.

Henry Mercer gathered everyday life items from the 18th and 19th centuries and completed a 6 story stone castle to house the collection. The objects document the lives and tasks of early America, before the Industrial Revolution. Mercer had quite the organizational skills, placing like items in their own alcoves, i.e. file making, printing, tinsmithing, wallpaper, harvesting, etc. He also placed the items in importance to the individuals. The first few floors are items that were essential and then the higher floors were for luxury and items for fun.

With Rollo, Mercer’s dog.

This exhibit really caught my eye, wallpaper and textile making.

When you first walk into the museum, you see the central court with a whale boat and more. I didn’t realize Anthony was in the shoot, but I love that he is looking up in amazement. There is so much stuff crammed into this castle its amazing. There are even baskets and cradles on the ceiling.

Outside of the museum/castle.

I’m working on something special for my clients and I enlisted the help of Amy, another PTS spouse and book club friend, and her daughter Abby. Abby loves to find dandelions in fields, and many made appearances in the photos. I love that it kept her busy enough to allow me to grab some photos of her. Clients, be on the lookout for something fun coming your way!

Stunning blue eyes!

I met up with sweet Julia and her mother Thursday morning on campus at Princeton University. They came with lots of clothing options; I think we had 5 different dress changes. I loved all the bright colors – perfect for the spring time! Towards the end of the session, we found a covered walkway that was like a tunnel. Julia had the best time yelling and hearing her echo. Love the joy from something so simple. Loved our session Katie – hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

Every time I look at this first image, my breath is taken from me. Her eyes have such a story to tell (and this is straight out of the camera!)

She’s got the stance and hand placement of a ballet dancer – maybe in the future??

Anthony signed up to play intramural softball with the Princeton University history department. Its a city wide thing and will be going all summer with the finals in August. Wednesday was the first game, so I attended with camera in tow to document. Since I’ve started scrapbooking again, its made me start bringing my camera to more events like this to document our lives together. Surprisingly, their team kicked major butt (I think the final score was 30-7). Anthony got some great hits and came across homeplate a few times. He played outfield and the ball came out his direction only two or three times. I love the fact that he’s playing with his dad’s old glove.

bike | princeton photographer

Friday, May 15th, 2009

This week I was walking around PTS campus and I saw this fun “old” bike (I put quotes around that because I’m pretty sure it was a new bike) so I had to grab a photo of it. I ran a vintage action over the images – its different than I normally do but I figured the bike needed it. I’m also displaying my new logo! What do you think?

If you’re the praying kind, will you say a prayer for Anthony around 10am EST today? He is taking a French language exam that all PhD students are required to take (they need to certain languages for their fields; Anthony has German & French). He’s super nervous because he hasn’t taken a French class. He’s just been studying his booty off with vocab/verbs/etc. on his own. Thank you!

1. Wednesday night Anthony and I hosted the church history PhD students and their spouses to dinner. Anthony has been in this program for a year, and I was finally meeting 2 of the couples. There were 9 of us all together; the most people we’ve ever entertained for. We had maple BBQ brisket, roasted veggies, corn on the cob, ceasar salad, rolls, homemade chocolate chip cookies. Man it was a feast!

2. I really don’t like the rain. Last Thursday it started raining here and just has not stopped; until today! The sun is out and I don’t think rain is even in the forecast.

3. Every month I get together with a group of seminary spouses for dinner and book club. It dawned on me just yesterday that I hadn’t started reading the book and we are getting together this Tuesday. I stopped reading It Sucked and Then I Cried by Heather Armstrong and got to reading The Princess Bride (as in the movie!) by William Goldman. I’m about halfway done and am enjoying it.

4. My confession is I’ve only see The Princess Bride the movie once and I don’t remember much about it. I know that its a favorite among many people. I really didn’t watch much TV or movies growing up (just something my family never did) so I guess I lead a sheltered pop culture life.

5. I am beyond excited for this announcement. June 13-19th Anthony and I will be in OKLAHOMA. I am booking sessions now! Please email me for details.
