weekend in princeton new jersey

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Saturday was Communiversity in downtown Princeton. The weather was perfect (borderline hot) so we ventured down there for a little bit. They shut down several streets with lots of live music, entertainment, food, and businesses.
Stone Soup Circus and Arts Council of Princeton joined together for this fun band. The instruments were trash cans, rubbermaids, etc. They were high energy and fun entertainment.

On the last stage we passed, the William D. Carter III Ministries were singing up a storm. Man I wish we could have stayed around to hear them completely. It was just too hot and no shade was around.

On our way back to the car I spotted these flowers. Thought I’d see how the 135L handled them. I processed them a bit differently and I think I like it.

Later that night we went to a cookout with some new seminary friends. It turned out to be a beautiful evening and we had great company.

This little one was very chill most of the evening. She came, sat down in a chair with her sunshades on, eating chips one at a time. After playing on the playground it was time for a little burger herself.

happy earth day!

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

I have always been conscience of our Earth. I appreciate the fact that I am alive and live on this great place. I feel I do my part most days. I’d love to hear what you do on cutting back consummation and helping Mother Earth.

1.)We recycle everything that can be recycled. We have two gallon rubbermaids in our laundry room; one for cardboard/paper and one for plastics/aluminum/glass. We fill them up usually within the week.

2.)We use cloth napkins at breakfast/lunch/dinner. I got this idea from Erin. Definitely makes us feel special and it saves paper.

3.)I picked up these from Ikea the other day. They have perfect sizes for sandwiches/chips/etc. I am going to try to cut back on using ziploc bags. And you can’t beat $4.99 for 17 pieces!

4.)I use reusable shopping bags. If you need some really cool, chic bags, check out Gracen. When we do get the plastic bags from a store, we keep them and reuse them as garbage bags in the bathroom and bedrooms.

5.)I use Kleen Kanteens for my water bottles. I have a 40oz and a 27oz and use them constantly. We also have a brita pitcher in our frig and a pur filter on the tap. The only time I buy a plastic water bottle is when we are in NYC.

6.)We use energy efficient lightbulbs and turn off lights/electronics when not in use. We aren’t 100% on this, but I feel we are at least saving something. Also we don’t turn on our heat/air unless absolutely necessary.

7.)I am almost 100% paperless with my business. I do print out invoices/orders and that’s it. I am glad to not have extra paper laying around since I’m limited on space and saving lots of trees.

8.)We use Method cleaning products. I know I should probably just make my own, but these make my life so much easier.

9.)Instead of using Purell, I purchased Clean Well hand sanitizer last year. I’m not sure if it really gets my hands super clean but I appreciate the fact that I’m not ingesting alcohol and its biodegradable.

That’s all I can think of right now. Please leave a comment with what you are doing. I always love to hear them!

I couldn’t resist sharing the following photo. Anthony got candles on Monday (since I didn’t get to blow out any candles on my b-day) and we put it on the last full cupcake from Crumbs. I have to say that I’m not usually a chocolate cake person, but this was HEAVENLY! Very moist after two days in the refrigerator and there was a little surprise of icing in the middle.

birthday celebration | new york city

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Saturday we went into NYC to celebrate my birthday. Our first mission was to visit two places near Brooklyn for Anthony. He has to give a lecture next week on a gentleman who held his first and second religious missions there. He thought it would be cool to have some pictures of him with the biography. Unfortunately the buildings no longer stand, but I got to see a part of NYC that I hadn’t experienced before. That included Chinatown, Little Italy (okay we just walked by the street), and the projects near the Manhattan Bridge.

After all that walking, we hailed a cab to grab lunch at S’MAC off of 12th. Sandra mentioned it on her blog and I just knew I had to try it. It did not disappoint.

After lunch we hailed another cab to take us to Time Square for our broadway show Mary Poppins. The movie Mary Poppins was one of my favorites growing up so I knew I’d want to see it on Broadway. Again, it did not disappoint. The costume and set changes were spectacular. Loved the music and dancing. I will probably say Step in Time was my favorite. There was tap dancing, lots going on and a great song. I’d recommend it to anyone!

After the play, we went to Crumbs for cupcakes. For whatever reason I’ve become obsessed with cupcakes. These were really good! We got 4 for the 3 of us and we still have 1 1/2 in the frig. They are HUGE!

I wanted to share this last photo of my husband. We were waiting on our mac & cheese and I snapped this. I think its one of my favorites of him.

five on friday | princeton newborn photographer

Friday, April 17th, 2009

There are photographers out there that do Five on Friday and I thought I’d give it a try this week.

1. I have the most amazing husband ever. He definitely listens! Sunday is my birthday. I had told him how much I wanted cupcakes for my birthday. Today, while my mother and I were out shopping, he went to the Bent Spoon in Palmer Square and got half a dozen cupcakes. I was totally surprised when I came home. He also got me Lightroom 2 – I’ve been dying to have this program for months now.

2. My mom flew in yesterday for my birthday. It has become an annual tradition for her to come visit during my birthday. The first year we got married, she and Anthony schemed and surprised me! I was completely shocked.

3. Spring is here in Princeton. I just hope it stays! The past few days have been closer to 60s or higher. Tomorrow is suppose to be gorgeous! Perfect weather for NYC!!!!

4. We’re going into NYC to sight-see (we’re going back down to the Brooklyn Bridge area to take a few pictures for a lecture Anthony is giving in less than 2 weeks), shop in SoHo and see Mary Poppins on Broadway.

5. Last week was spring break for the area schools. That meant I was going to be working overtime at one of my jobs. Watching the B girls is always fun but Ms. Isabelle was antsy on Thursday. We decided to make homemade cupcakes. It was fun being around an 8 year old and the thought process when it come to decorating. Can you tell which ones I decorated and which ones Belle did? :D

One last photo of their dog Oxford. He’s an Airedale Terrier and very expressive.

maternity session – central new jersey

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

I met up with this sweet couple on a very windy day in central New Jersey. It actually reminded me of Oklahoma! They are anxiously awaiting their first child, a girl, in May. I’m pretty sure she’s gonna have the coolest accent, with a father from New Zealand and a mother from NY. Dad did a wonderful job playing photographer’s assistant making sure Jennifer’s clothes were just right, getting a step ladder, moving anything I asked. Thanks Jamie for that! Jennifer and Jamie – enjoy your sneak peek!
